If everyone in the world lived as we do in Sutton we would need three planets to support us. Therefore we need to reduce our impact - our ecological footprint - by two thirds to a sustainable and globally equitable level. We call this One Planet Living®.
Local environmental charity BioRegional and Sutton Council are working with residents and businesses in the London Borough of Sutton to find ways of reducing our ecological footprint while strengthening our community and improving our quality of life.
The average resident in Sutton depends upon 5.38 global hectares to meet their needs, from housing to food and travel. That's three times higher than our fair share of the Earth's resources, and means residents need to reduce their footprint by 65%. We aim to do this by 2025 and to reduce our CO2 emissions of about 12 tonnes per person per year by 90% by 2030. This is a hugely ambitious project but together we can make it happen.
Do you know that by insulating your home you can save up to £200 a year and you may be eligible for FREE insulation to make your home warmer and reduce your heating bills?
BioRegional are working with Sutton Council and insulation companies to help residents reduce energy bills and carbon emissions by insulating their homes. This will not only help to keep you warm in winter but could also help to keep your home cooler in summer.
If you are over 70 or in receipt of certain benefits, you can insulate your home for free (and may be able to get a free boiler too)!
If you are working we have arranged big discounts for you too; speak to Anna for up to date prices.
This offer is open to everyone; if you are renting you will need to get permission from your landlord.
If you are interested in arranging a free home visit or finding out more, call us on 020 8404 5924, email anna@oneplanetsutton.org or visit us at the BedZED Centre, 24 Helios Rd, Hackbridge, London, SM6 7BZ
